The door is knocking for Meru County

With the coming of World Tourism day 2015 on 24th- 27th September in Meru County, the event itself is a great and unique opportunity for the County to showcase in what they pride in. Most travel prospects as well the industry stakeholders are eagerly preparing for the great and iconic event. The big question is how is the County prepared to utilize the special opportunity to roll the carpet on for other counties to envy and desire to hold such an event in future.
I stand to be corrected if I am in my own world to undoubtedly knowing the county as the leading in growing of Miraa. It is known to many. Infact the County is best leading County for Miraa export. Besides, Meru County has a number of visitors’ attraction which includes Meru National Park which is a complete wilderness. Among other attraction is the proximity of the County to Africa’s 2nd highest mountain that makes it a Mt. Kenya climbing circuit through the Chogoria route.
Kenya is at the peak of luring and attracting more visitors to the country which is clearly defined by this year theme of World Tourism Day- “millions of tourist, millions of opportunities”.
There is a lot of expectation from other counties in terms of attractions, accommodation and branding of the county to achieve a competitive edge in the competing industry.
For Meru County, “IT IS MY TIME NOW”.

A Treasure in the heart of Laikipia County, Kenya

I happened to interact with a young boy who seemed very knowledgeable about wild animals especially those found in Kenya. I asked a question, “Have you ever seen a Chimpanzee?” The young boy posed for about a minute and was so much in thought to remember whether he has ever seen a chimpanzee. He then said, “We do not have chimpanzees in Kenya”. I was not amazed at his response because I had also encountered a friend who also strongly disagreed with me that we have chimpanzees in the country.
Chimpanzees are mainly found in the equatorial Africa stretching from Southern Senegal through Central Africa to western Tanzania and Uganda. In Kenya, they are found in captivity. The Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary provides a lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused Chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the heart of Laikipia County is the only place you can see these fascinating animals.

Chimpanzees are noisy, curious, intelligent and social. They are mammal like a human. Chimpanzees fascinate humans and are favourite both in Zoos and in the Wild. The chimps have set feeding times, and return to their indoor enclosures at night. They spend their day exploring, climbing and socializing.
What is more amazing is that we share 98.6% of genetic DNA with Chimpanzees.
This is just but one treasure among the numerous treasures in the Magical Kenya.

"Touch a soul"-Let the Children live

We have always known travel for leisure, business and holidays. People have different reasons for travel. However, little is recognized of the few individuals who spare their time and resources to touch a soul in a new whole world to them. My initial thinking of travel as for holiday and merry making was cut short when I came  across a group of travelers from Canada who come to Kenya for at least twice per year to visit a children home in Embu. Their main reason for travel to the children orphanage is to have a good time playing, participating and engaging with the children in their daily lives.
Toto Love Children Home is a charitable children home based in Embu, Kenya committed to empowering orphaned and abandoned children living with HIV by providing them with basic needs, skills, resources, knowledge and skills they need to develop into their full potential. The immense contribution and support by Leah and the group is second to none. Such reason for travel is to be treasured. It takes a kind heart to touch a soul of a young promising child.
Here are some of the photos of the children

Thanks to Caravan Tours & Travel Ltd who have continually facilitated their travel to Kenya through proper planning of their trip to Kenya.

Catch a breathtaking view of Great Migration of Wildebeest in Maasai Mara

The term “Migration of Wildebeest” sounds too obvious to many people as the country boasts of the Great Migration of Wildebeest annually. But what exactly is its significance?

Well, The Great Migration of Wildebeest takes place during July through October annually in the iconic Maasai Mara National Reserve. This migration involves over one million of wildebeest and hundred thousands of gazelles and zebras crossing over Mara River and roaming over the Mara ecosystem in search of rain ripened grass and to the extension breeding purposes. The beauty comes about with the large flock of wildebeest, their grazing in the field, the run and cross of Mara river where many of them especially the weak and the young ones are eaten by the awaiting hungry crocodiles.

For decades, Maasai Mara National Reserve remains undisputed top safari destination in Kenya and offers visitors a classic African safari experience. Its vast landscapes and magnificent African wildlife is dramatic production rich in elephant herds, buffalo flock, lion prides and thousand of other wild animals which graze in the backdrops of savanna grasslands and woodlands, hills and river.  The reserve is also a superb bird watching destination with the big renowned birds such as ground hornbill, kori bustard and lappet-faced vultures among many other mammals than any other game reserve in Kenya.

Now, it’s the season for the natural cycle of migration of wildebeest. This beautifies the reserve and hence the influx flow of visitors to Mara as well as full bed capacity for most of the reserves lodges and camps. The multipliers effect underlines it all as the economic gain is not only felt by the tour firms, hotel facilities and the reserve but also extends to the Maasai community especially the Maasai women who spend their time making the crafts for sale.

It is therefore true that migration of wildebeest is such a treasure occurrence in Kenya. Our biggest role as a country will forever remain to preserve and conserve the Mara ecosystem to ensure it’s sustainable. Yes, sustainable development of Mara is the key determinant to this annual natural cycle.

Do not miss the view of this special and spectacular natural event.

ADVENTURE FOR A DAY AT MT. LONGONOT NATIONAL PARK

Ever thought of an adventurous excursion around Nairobi…

Many are the times as families or even group; you have ever wondered where you can have a sport like excursion in a playful mood. Sporting is not only taking a ball and rolling it in the field. There are different ways of sporting. Hiking, rocking climbing, trekking are some of active participation and vigorous sport activities.
Mt Longonot National Park offers an ideal scenic and adventurous environment for such.  The good thing is that it’s very much accessible from Nairobi, about 90 km drive. That means an early morning drive to the park will offer you an ample time to have the day’s excursion. The sweating and tiptoeing as you hike to the top and the rim of the crater is worthy it for a body exercise especially for those who spend their time busy through out the week in the office seats.

Let’s now turn the page and speak about the beauty our eyes always crave for. When you are at the mountain, you can have a magnificent scenic view of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha.  The V-shaped valleys and ridges on the sides of the Mountain are so catchy and can’t go unnoticed.
I have heard people say its so boring to visit a park and wave good bye at it without spotting even a hare at a far glance. It’s funny though; Mt. Longonot will crown you with a view of gazelles, buffaloes, impalas and giraffes that will radiate the whole experience.
It is good as you prepare to embark on the journey to the Sheer adventure that you pack with you drinking water, cameras, binoculars, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and for routing purposes carry with you a guide book.

Its cold season in Kenya, keep warm

One question that comes in mind when one is planning for a vacation is when to visit the place of interest. When do I go to Kenya? This question is important as pertains to weather conditions preferred. Kenya has a good weather condition which varies across the country. It is located at the equator thus enjoys pleasant tropical climate. However there is a wet and dry season. The Coast is hot and humid all year around.
Normally the wet season starts on November to May. November and December Kenya experience short rains. The rains are sometimes heavy, mostly in the late evening or evening. January and February are usually a dry spell in the rainy season and the rains are less. March, April and May get long rains. The down pour can be on daily basis, sometimes the whole day.
June, July, August and October are the coldest months. The temperatures vary with different regions. There are very little rains. During this time, carry warm clothing such as scarf, gloves, woolen coat, wool sock and boots. Also remember to pack any medications you'll need for the duration of your trip.

Best travel as you plan to visit Kenya
